Enterprise Adviser Network
Inspiring young people about the opportunities offered by the world of work
About the Enterprise Adviser Network
As laid out in two of the Good Career Guidance Benchmarks, the need for a focus on improving young peoples’ interaction with the ‘world of work’ is imperative to improving skills in the region.
We are leading the Enterprise Adviser programme for the North East LEP area, which embeds business leaders into secondary schools and colleges on a voluntary basis to help teachers shape the delivery of careers education.
North East Enterprise Advisers are part of a nationwide network of high calibre volunteers with executive experience of employment or self employment. They work with one of our Enterprise Coordinators to support schools and colleges to navigate the range of possible employer interactions and to help them create a whole school strategy for careers, enterprise and employer engagement.
North East schools from Berwick to Durham are participating and we would welcome schools and colleges who are not already involved to get in touch. Together, schools and colleges and business leaders are working to refine the way schools and the world of work interact, examine their enterprise strategies and fill any gaps.

The first version of the Strategic Economic Plan was published in April 2014. It followed on from the North East Independent Economic Review and set out a high level vision for the economy and included investment programmes for Local Growth Fund and European funds which were available at that time.
The SEP was refreshed during 2016 and launched in March 2017 following an extensive consultation involving businesses and economic partners. The refresh process enabled the region to reflect on new economic data following the end of the recession and the changing economic policy environment including the decision to leave the European Union.
