Newcastle University has a range of projects and research programmes looking at new green sources of heat energy. These include:

• Grid-scale pumped heat energy storage system

• Net Zero GeoRDIE; a 1.6km deep borehole research and demonstration asset. Investigating closed loop deep well geothermal.

• Helix; a mixed-use city centre site comprising a range of buildings connected to the site’s Energy Centre and Heat Network.
