Energy for Growth: the story of the North East energy sector

Today is a key milestone at the start of our journey to develop an energy strategy for the North East which will support and enable economic growth.

The energy sector presents a significant opportunity for the regional economy, to create more and better jobs and enable economic growth. The North East LEP aims to take forward this area of opportunity by bringing together stakeholders across the public and private sectors and academia, to identify connections and work together.

The publication of the North East LEP’s Energy for Growth brochure showcases the region’s capabilities across the energy sector. Our aim is to raise awareness, both within and outside of the North East, of the internationally important capabilities we have here in the region. We want to demonstrate the important role the North East has to play in helping to solve national energy challenges, including accelerating the transition to clean growth.

Through the strategy we will be shaping a pipeline of strategic projects to support through delivery. So, if you are involved in a project which has the potential to create more and better jobs in the region, support economic growth, or which could play a part in tackling national energy challenges, get in touch. I’d also like to invite partners to get in touch if they want to be kept informed as the strategy is developed.

It’s an exciting time as we begin to tell the story of the North East’s energy community, to attract further investment and growth to the region, and I want to make sure that all our partners are a part of the process.
