Refurbishment of Metro’s Newcastle Central Station

This scheme has transformed the appearance, accessibility and functionality of the Central Metro Station in Newcastle.

The refurbishment of Newcastle Central Station Metro Station scheme consisted of replacing ceilings, concourse, platform and escalator, replacing low voltage equipment and platform canopies and improving concourse and entrance finishes. It also made improvements to disabled access, information displays and waiting facilities.

The refurbishment was funded by a £3.5m contribution from the £350m Metro all-change modernisation programme, and £2,510,000 from the Local Growth Fund.

Newcastle Central Station Metro Station is used by around 5.3 million people every year.
