Local Sustainable Transport Fund

A mini-programme focusing on sustainable methods of transport, including cycle ways and improved traffic management systems to enable more reliable public transport links.

The Local Sustainable Transport Fund capital programme consists of the following schemes:

1. Tyne and Wear and Northumberland Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC): The scheme will deliver a network of variable message signs (VMS) at key locations, expand the existing automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) network, additional CCTV cameras at key incident/congestion hotspots and a data link between Durham and Tyne and Wear UTMC systems

2. Durham Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC): The scheme consists of a network of variable message signs (VMS) at key locations, expansion on existing ANPR network, additional CCTV cameras at key incident/congestion hotspots and a data link between Durham and Tyne and Wear UTMC systems

3. Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI): RTPI provision at several key gateway stations

4. Durham Rail Station Gateway: Provision of a new customer information office on the northbound platform

5. Newcastle Gateway Scheme: Provision of cycle parking near to Central Station

6. Morpeth Rail Station Gateway: The scheme will install signage and advertisement board holders at Morpeth Rail Station and power two bus shelters for RTPI purposes

7. Newcastle International Airport Gateway: This scheme will provide cycle parking, cycle lockers, staff cycling parking and showers at sites defined within Newcastle International Airport

8. Durham Cycle Scheme: Cycle route scheme linked to Durham Rail Station

9. Gateshead Cycle Scheme: Gateshead Cycle scheme: Cycle route scheme linking Gateshead town centre to Newcastle Central Station

10. Newcastle Cycle Scheme: Cycle route scheme linked to Newcastle Central Station and Gateshead

11. Cobalt Cycle Route Scheme: Cycle route scheme linked to Cobalt Business Park

12. Morpeth Cycle Scheme: Cycle route scheme linked to Morpeth Rail Station

13. South Shields Cycle Route scheme: Cycle route linked to South Shields Town Centre

14. Sunderland Cycle scheme: Cycle route linked to Sunderland Rail Station

15. Scooters Loan Scheme: A scheme that enables jobseekers to hire scooters.
