Proto: Centre for Emerging Technologies

PROTO: The Emerging Technology Centre  on the Gateshead Baltic Quarter.

PROTO is Europe’s first dedicated centre for emerging technology. Led by Gateshead Council, a dedicated team is on hand to partner with businesses to help them create exciting and meaningful digital content specialising in XR, 3D character capture and motion capture.  Proto is fast becoming a base for the region’s most trailblazing businesses and offers  contemporary office and co-working space.

The Emerging Technology Centre is a state-of-the-art research and development facility equipped with sound recording studio and specialist 3D character and motion capture equipment for hire. It’s also a place where tech driven SMEs can rent office space or co work from.

PROTO  is part of the Digital Catapult NETV network, and is also home to the North East Tees Valley Immersive Lab (one of only four in the UK).

The centre is open to businesses of any size and from any sector but will be especially useful for high growth SMEs, giving them the opportunity to explore VR, AR and other emerging technologies
The new centre complements the  adjacent Northern Design Centre on Baltic Quays and is supporting the accelerated incubation of technology-driven North East SMEs. Through flexible office accommodation and specialist testing facilities, the project is supporting  the development and commercialisation of emerging technologies; creating new business opportunities and disrupting traditional industries to forge new innovative sectors and a dynamic business community.
