North East Local Enterprise Partnership seeks new private sector board members

Do you believe in the North East, its people, places and businesses? Could you help to drive economic growth in the region?

The North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) works with partners across the region to deliver the North East Strategic Economic Plan, with the ultimate aim of creating 100,000 more and better jobs between 2014 – 2024.

We are now looking for leading business figures in the North East to join the main North East LEP Board.  We’re particularly interested in people who have expertise in one or more of our focus sectors: digital, advanced manufacturing, energy and health and life sciences.

The Board includes representatives from across the public, private and education sectors who advise on key decisions and use their knowledge and expertise to support the North East LEP in achieving its ambitions for the North East.

Board members are not remunerated and serve for an initial three year term.  We are especially keen to hear from female and/or BAME candidates. It is expected that the roles will commence late 2019 / early 2020.

In addition, the North East LEP’s Business Growth Advisory Board which reports into the main LEP Board is also seeking new business leaders.

The Business Growth programme aspires to create more and better jobs through a dynamic and entrepreneurial economy that enables businesses to thrive and grow. Our goal for business growth is clear. By 2024, our business growth programme will have made a significant impact on our employment and business density targets. We will have increased the density of scaleup businesses in the North East by 50%, creating 6,000 new jobs.

To deliver this step-change, our activities capitalise on opportunities to drive business growth through start up, scale up and international trade. The business growth board steers, advises and makes recommendations on the development and delivery of the programme. Specifically, board members:

  • Actively support the Chair and the North East LEP Business Growth Executive Team in achieving the delivery of the programme as set out in the North East Strategic Economic Plan and in monitoring our delivery
  • Provide advice to the main North East LEP Board on business growth and access to finance issues
  • Communicate and champion the business growth programme and SEP across partners, stakeholders and professional networks

If you are interested in being considered for either role, please send your CV and covering letter to Helen Golightly, Chief Executive at helen.golightly.nelep.co.uk by 5pm on 13 September 2019 stating which role you’re interested in.

If you wish to discuss either role please contact helen.golightly.nelep.co.uk to discuss the main LEP Board roles and Colin Bell ([email protected]), the Business Growth Director, to discuss the Business Growth Advisory Board.
