The Health, Life Sciences and Medicines Manufacturing Strategy

The North East Health, Life Sciences and Medicines Manufacturing Strategy has been developed by the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) working in partnership with the NHS, businesses, universities and leaders in the health and life sciences sector.

Skills for Jobs white paper

Our Vision

Our vision is to position the North East as a leader in the development, testing, manufacturing and adoption of people-centred treatments, therapeutics and medicines at a time of demographic change.

By 2030 we want to see the number of jobs in the sector doubled from 12,000 to 24,000 by 2030 and to double the number of businesses active in the North East health and life sciences community from 150 to 300

Our four priorities

  • To modernise and grow pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • To increase the number of health and life sciences businesses that are born, grown and scaled up in our region
  • To provide access and routes to NHS markets whilst nurturing innovation and collaboration
  • To develop the ecosystem so it has the right environment for health and life sciences businesses and manufacturers to grow.
Local governance

The Health and Life Sciences Steering Group

The health and life sciences steering group brings together leaders from our health, life sciences and medicines manufacturing ecosystem to work together to develop and steer the delivery of the strategy.
